Britney Spears' father Jamie is said to have banned his family from taking part in Dr Phil McGraw's TV special about his troubled daughter.
The famous TV shrink and Spears family friend visited the singer at Cedars-Sinai hospital in L.A. shortly before her surprise release, prompting speculation that Brit would participate in the show.
Dr Phil said afterwards that his meeting with Brit "left me convinced more than ever that she's in dire need of medical and psychological intervention."
According to a new report, however, Jamie Spears does not want his family to have anything to do with this week's program.
An insider tells Life & Style: "As soon as Jamie realized Dr. Phil was making public statements about Britney, including assessments of her condition, he got angry.
"He started making phone calls to everybody in the family, telling them not to cooperate with Dr. Phil.
"Jamie was totally incensed that Dr. Phil—who he knows a little, because Lynne is friends with Dr. Phil's wife—seemed to be using Britney for self-promotion.
"Dr. Phil had told Jamie everything would be off the record until the show was done.
"But after Jamie made his phone calls, Lynne and Bryan [their son] agreed not to appear on Dr. Phil's show."
It's been reported that Britney had no idea the TV doc was coming to her hospital room and that she angrily told him to leave.
One psychiatrist called the visit "intrusive and inappropriate," whilst another commented: "It is incredible that the hospital allowed Dr Phil in her room. It's a total violation of her rights."
Dr Phil has insisted that he visited Britney at the request of her mother Lynne.
